Villagers in eastern Nepal were saved because everyone was at the ordination of a priest

The inhabitants of Okhaldhunga, a village in the far way eastern Nepal, were saved from death during last Saturday’s earthquake because they were at church attending the ordination of a priest.

In an interview with Caritas, a young man called Santosh Kumar Magar, who is 29 years old and is a professor, said he was attending Mass on April 25, when the earthquake of 7.9 magnitude destroyed the country.

More than 5000 people died and more than 10 000 people were injured due to the earthquake that hit Nepal and some areas of India and China.

The earthquake took place around noon and its epicenter was 80 kilometers away from Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital.

Santosh Kumar Magar said: “when I felt the earthquake I left the room where I was and I saw two or three houses around me being destroyed. Some animals were killed on that same occassion. “
